Commissioned as a wedding gift for Lord Walsingham's eldest daughter in 1865, Aldwark Manor retains much of its Victorian character but has also moved with the times. The house stands amid 100 acres of grounds close to the River Ure and also sports an 18-hole golf course. York is a 10-mile drive away.

The bright, vibrant restaurant with its plush bench sofas and huge modern canvases of wine bottles provides a stylish backdrop for food with a European slant.
