The Anchor & Hope offers some of the most vigorous food of its kind in London, all served up in a deliberately dressed down setting of bare floorboards, reddish-brown walls and big windows hung with heavy cotton curtains. The resident team here cut their gastronomic teeth at The Eagle and St.John, so it's not surprising that the food takes no prisoners.
The menu changes twice daily and it reads like the gospel according to twenty-first-century pub cooking, with bold ideas, big flavours and uncompromisingly matter-of-fact presentation.
