Auberge du Lac is an auspicious restaurant in the suitably auspicious surroundings of Brocket Hall – a converted hunting lodge standing proud in a 543-acre Hertfordshire estate. Once a country retreat, it now plies its trade as a swish hotel, complete with conference facilities and two championship golf courses.

Situated overlooking the ornamental lake, it puts on a grand show, with an airy conservatory making the most of the views and a luxurious dining room at the centre of things.
