The Horseshoe Inn was originally a blacksmith's shop, before serving its time as a coaching inn on the main road from Edinburgh to the south. After a period in the doldrums, the place was refurbished and reopened in 2005 with chef/proprietor Patrick Bardoulet and partner Vivienne Steele at the helm.

French-born Patrick has cooked his way around Europe over the years, so it's not surprising that his menus are a mix of modern Gallic ideas with lots of influences – especially from the Mediterranean.
