Dating back to the seventeenth century, this slate-roofed, white-painted pub has been given a new lease of life by current proprietors William and Janet Hutchings. It stands right by a hump-backed bridge over the River Monmow with hills rising steeply in the background. Inside, it looks bright and airy, with open-plan areas in natural shades, and flagstone floors adding a dose of character.
Candles, white cloths and fresh flowers set the mood in the dining room, and the menu avoids flights of fancy while keeping things interesting.
