Off the beaten track, down a country road surrounded by beech woods, the Best Beech Inn at Wadhurst can trace its history back to the late seventeenth century. At various times the building has served as a butcher's shop and early petrol station, but it now wears its pub credentials proudly on its sleeve.
In 2002 it was transformed and the interior was completely re-fashioned: it now comprises three distinct areas – a drinkers' bar, a bistro for light meals and a fully blown restaurant offering high-class modern European cooking.
At lunchtime there are straightforward bistro-style dishes along the lines of roast salmon Caesar salad, eggs Benedict, lamb's liver with bacon and mash, or steak and kidney pudding for those wanting just one course.
