Named after the swashbuckling Viscount Bolingbroke - a seventeenth-century rake and raver - this gastropub puts on a more genteel face for the denizens of Clapham and Battersea. It's a grown-up kind of place with a grand bar done out with swathes of polished wood and mirrors, cosy lounge areas complete with leather sofas, and a elegant dining room with a glass-panelled roof and billowing drapes.
Simple bar snacks of Welsh rarebit, pork pie with piccalilli and devilled whitebait give way to a more ambitious restaurant menu that could lead off with seared scallops, bubble and squeak and bacon dust or crab cakes with watercress and garlic mayo.
