This fine-looking building on Edinburgh's Southside once did time as a snooker hall, before being transformed into swanky boutique hotel, restaurant and cocktail bar. It now offers a tempting mix of old-fashioned personal service and 'sophisticated loft-space living'.
Pride of place goes to the restaurant, which has been sumptuously done out deep-leather booths and swish fittings; a pianist plays on Saturday nights and DJs attract lounge lizards on Fridays.
