Brace of Pheasants Review

Standing at the village crossroads close to Plush Brook, this beguiling old thatched inn was the result of a merger between two cottages and the village forge. Outside is a delightful sloping garden with a terrace, while the interior is warmed by open fires.

If you are looking for something serious to eat, head for the dining room, where the tables are neatly laid with pretty blue and yellow cloths and the menu is a no-frills line-up of pub stalwarts mixed with a few more ambitious restaurant dishes.

Typical choices from the daily, bistro-style repertoire might include grilled goats' cheese and balsamic onions on toasted focaccia, pan-roasted goose breast with blackberry sauce or fillets of sea bass with char-grilled asparagus and herb butter sauce - as well as eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, beer-battered fish and chips or calf's liver and bacon.
