Devotees and old-faithfuls of the seminal Brasserie St Quentin on Brompton Road won't recognise much of the original in its new incarnation as the Brompton Bar & Grill. Once renowned as a bastion of all things Gallic for South Ken's francophiles, it now sports a brand new contemporary look that ditches most of the old Parisian brasserie trappings in favour of grey walls hung with examples of in-vogue Brit art and modern cartoons, a lush bar and silver lampshades dangling above the tables.
The menu has also been given a thorough spring-clean, banishing the moules frites, cassoulets and tarte au citron of old in favour of an Anglo-French menu that lists potted shrimps and steak and kidney pie alongside cod brandade with roasted tomatoes, grilled monkfish and wild sea bass with salsify.
