The Burnt Gate at Anslow Review

Parts of this evocatively named pub date back some three centuries, when it comprised a couple of cottages and a farmhouse opposite a forest and a tollgate: when all of this burnt down, the area became known as Burnt Gate.

These days, the place has been refurbished and extended, with a blaze of colour from hanging baskets and troughs outside, plus spacious interiors with light wood beams, open fires and a country feel - although Wi-Fi access is bang up to date.

Local produce looms large on the menu, and the repertoire is bolstered by seasonal game and seafood specials.
