Café Bohème Review

Something of an Old Compton Street institution, Café Bohème was born in 1992 on the ground floor of Nick Jones' Soho House members' club. Following closure and a serious re-vamp, it recently flung open its doors once again. The owners took their cue from Parisian brasseries where it came to creating an authentic look: red leather banquettes, mahogany tables with brass tones, antique mirrors and Carrera marble mosaic floors create just the right mood for long opening hours and a flexible bourgeois menu.

Breakfasts of eggs Benedict, waffles, porridge and croissants give way to a daytime menu that is peppered with crowd-pleasing classics ranging from soupe de piosson, confit de canard and croque monsieur (and madame) to salade landaise, lambs sweetbreads with sauce gribiche and salmon with sorrel sauce, followed by chocolate marquise or peach Melba.

Small plates and light dishes such as crab and avocado tartine or merguez baguettes make up the after-midnight menu, and the all-French wine list offers half a dozen by the glass or 500ml pichet.
