The name and address tell their own fascinating story: this handsome Georgian townhouse was built in 1827 almost opposite what was the site of the island's first cannon battery, erected during the Civil War to ensure safe anchorage at Rothesay Bay. The cannons are now buried in the harbour, with only their tops showing above the water.
Once a gentleman's residence, Cannon House is now a charming and elegant hotel with peaceful surrounds and magnificent sea views.
