Italian empire builder Antonio Carluccio is on a mission to bring his native food, wine and provisions to town and cities across the UK. The original branch of his Caffè chain occupies a converted fashion showroom just a stroll from Oxford Circus: its high ceilings and natural light help to create the feel of a buzzy cosmopolitan canteen, and there's plenty of seating outside if you fancy watching the world go by.
The formula is the same in each outlet: expect superb savoury bread 'tins', top-notch olives and other imported artisan ingredients, lots of salads and excellent home-made pasta (try Pugliese penne with courgettes, chilli and deep-fried spinach balls or pappardelle with Carluccio's beloved wild mushrooms).
