A handy position close to Swanage quay ensures that fresh fish is in plentiful supply at this long running local restaurant. The kitchen makes bountiful use of the day's haul for some lively European-influenced dishes, including wild halibut with roast tomatoes, thyme and garlic butter, simply cooked lobster and seared scallops with lemon, garlic and balsamic vinegar.
Elsewhere on the handwritten menus you might see New Forest roe deer with bubble 'n' squeak or even bison steaks, while desserts could usher in – say – chocolate truffle cake or ginger ice cream with cranberry sauce.
French posters add to the casual bistro atmosphere, and the wine list does the trick by offering quaffable stuff at easy-going prices.
