A godsend for shoppers trudging their way round Basingstoke's Festival Place in search of bargains, Ciao Baby Cucina offers colourful sustenance, Italian style, and the chance for some people-watching from the tables outside. The place also has its own deli, if you need to buy cakes, bread, cheese or other provisions.
The lengthy menu moves beyond pasta and pizzas (although these are perennial crowd-pleasers) into salads, fish, meaty trattoria standbys (veal escalopes with Marsala and mushrooms) and house specials including marinated grilled lamb steaks on the bone, medallions of fillet steak topped with herbs, nuts and pancetta, and home-made spiced Italian sausage with tomatoes, wet polenta and Parmesan.
