Built as a mansion for Laird of Cleat in 1850, this charming family-run guesthouse is one of the friendliest places to stay on Westray. Islanders still congregate in the traditional Pioneer Bar for drinks and light meals, and owner Malcolm Stout is a walking encyclopaedia of local knowledge.
Dinner is served in the Stewart Room: the clan's coat-of-arms hangs over the fireplace and an oil painting of the young James Stewart holds pride of place on one wall.
