Fans of the Kinks will know that the legendary rock band played their very first live gig in this Muswell Hill boozer, The Clissold Arms - although they probably wouldn't recognise the place now. Following a major overhaul, the Clissold Arms has become a dedicated follower of food fashion, morphing into an up-to-the-minute gastropub serving unpretentious food to a clued-up young crowd.
The kitchen sends out hearty starters such as carrot and wild garlic soup or pan-roast quail with Puy lentils and caramelised onion, ahead of mighty fish pies, pot-roast poussin with black pudding and barley risotto, Middlewhite pork loin and fillet of wild sea bass with shaved fennel, Jerusalem artichokes and roast vine tomatoes.
