The Exhibition Rooms in Crystal Palace takes its inspiration from the Great Exhibition of 1851, and the restaurant aims to be a focal point for the local community as well as a destination for the surrounding area. The interior is spread over two floors, with influences from near and far, hints of colonial decadence (à la Raffles in Singapore), soft greens, elegant textures and an eclectic assortment of antiques from France, England and Morocco.
The kitchen works to a broad modern British menu with European overtones, witness squid, chorizo and chickpeas in saffron broth, roasted salt marsh lamb with Puy lentils, Bury black pudding and salsa verde, and organic salmon with ratte potatoes and spring onion beurre blanc.
