In a pretty part of Highgate, this comfortable Georgian pub – once reputedly a school – lists Dick Turpin among its former customers, as well as more recent poets and writers. Despite modernisation it is still retains some of its original features, including a sash-windowed bar hatch, panelling and a high-backed carved settle tucked away in the snug.
Food goes from soup, sandwiches and mixed platters of seafood, cheese or charcuterie to hand-made sausages with parsnip mash, butternut squash risotto and char-grilled steaks.
