Just a short walk from Chawton and Jane Austen's house - and within sight and sound of the Watercress Line - the white-painted French Horn is a fascinating old pub with a fascinating history. Built in 1640, it first became a watering hole in 1802 and has long-standing connections with beer and brewing in Alton.
Over the centuries, the pub has seen some 25 landlords and landladies come and go, but current incumbent Debbie Fordham is maintaining its reputation and upping the game when it comes to food.
