Charmingly situated where the old Roman road crosses the River Tyne, this delightful hotel dates back to the seventeenth century and has its own terraced and landscaped gardens (complete with a giant chess board) running down to the water's edge. It makes a peaceful country retreat, although it is fully equipped for today's needs, including a leisure club, spa and gym.
Leisurely evening meals are served in the Riverside Restaurant where large picture windows make the most of the view.
