Eponymous 'Hanni' is no longer involved, but new owners have retained the original name of this popular neighbourhood restaurant just across the road from Brooklands Metrolink station. This is a delightfully welcoming venue serving up robust food with a forthright East Mediterranean and Middle Eastern accent, and it continues to offer great value for money.
A clutch of tried-and-tested mezze nibbles kicks things off in colourful fashion, with well-known names like ful medames, falafel, merguez sausages and tabbouleh grabbing the limelight in tandem with dips and freshly grilled breads.
Main courses are a red-blooded mix of high-protein grills and kebabs (from grilled poussin to Tunisian meatballs) plus braised dishes and casseroles (kleftiko, stifado and so on) and half a dozen variations on the couscous theme.
