Hempstead House Hotel Review

Built in 1850 for a certain Robert Lake and his family, Hempstead House has been run as a private country hotel since the 1990s. Lakes Restaurant takes its name from the original owner, and old family portraits preside over the formally appointed, conservatory dining room. Classical columns break up the space and there are views of the garden from the big windows.

The kitchen works to a lengthy menu of classic and modern dishes, kicking off with – say – hot crab brûlée or baked goats' cheese tart with red onion marmalade.
