Occupying a fine-looking old house in the ancient village of Aylesford, Hengist (the restaurant, that is) has been given the kiss of life by the team who own and run Thackeray's in Tunbridge Wells. The building's distinctive Georgian façade gives way to a good-looking dining room, where earthy materials blend impressively with metallic colours and smoked glass.
The food is modern, full of neat touches and the kitchen draws most of its inspiration from France and the Mediterranean.
