Highfield Hotel & Restaurant Review
Built as two private residences in the late 1880s using locally quarried Borrowdale slate, this privately run country house incorporates many original features for which the Victorians were famous. Take a look round and you will notice balconies, turrets, bay windows and a veranda for pre-prandial drinks – not to mention a converted chapel.
There are great views of the lake and mountains from the sedate restaurant, which also has its quota of original touches.
