Overlooking the village green in the heart of affluent Burnham Market, this gentrified seventeenth-century inn tries to be all things to all people – and succeeds admirably. It combines the virtues of a country pub dispensing East Anglian real ales with a modern restaurant, hotel and conference facilities.
Fish from the Norfolk coast and beyond is a big player on the full menu, where you might find anything from Burnham Creek oysters and dressed Cromer crab with local new potato and spring onion salad to seared wild sea trout with lemon chutney, samphire, grilled radicchio, baby onions and Noilly Prat butter or turbot with chorizo, pappardelle pasta and spicy sun-dried tomato ragoût served 'en papillote'.
