Surrounded by the beautiful Berkshire downs in a tiny village some 20 minutes drive from Newbury, the Ibex Inn is a cottagey Grade II-listed building that once served as a bakery and off-licence before being turned into a traditional country pub. These days, it's well known as a venue for functions, weddings, BBQs, hog roasts and other special events, which can be staged in a huge marquee.
On an everyday basis, the kitchen provides a decent choice of pub grub and restaurant-style food, ranging from fishcakes, lasagne and chicken chasseur to carpaccio of tuna with rocket and red pepper coulis, open beef Wellington with thyme jus, and desserts including spotted dick and pear and almond tart.
