This Smithfield gem Le Comptoir Gascon started life as the bakery and deli offshoot of the nearby Michelin-starred Club Gascon, but owners Pascal Aussignac and Vincent Labeyrie recently added some seats and turned it into a quintessentially Gallic, 'urban rustic' bistro.
There's nothing fancy about the food – it's all straightforward, gutsy, flavour-charged stuff with its heart (and other vitals) in the southern regions of France.
