Standing idyllically in its own gardens and parkland, Lewtrenchard Manor is a proud, many-gabled Jacobean mansion complete with mullioned windows, superb carvings, fabulously intricate ceilings, huge oil paintings and seemingly acres of panelling. It now does duty as a top-notch country house hotel with an international reputation but a totally relaxed demeanour.
The hotel may be in the remote reaches of Dartmoor, but chef/patron Jason Hornbuckle manages to procure a prodigious amount of home-grown and local produce from a trusted network of suppliers (including fish from the West Country ports and seasonal game from the moors).
