If the Cotswolds is an idealised chocolate-box vision of Olde England, then the splendid sixteenth-century Lygon Arms is one of its choice selections. Inside it's full of inglenook fireplaces, snugs, oak panels – even a minstrels' gallery. Of course, it also lives in the twenty-first century with all the comforts you would expect from a top-class hotel.
On the food front, pride of place goes to The Great Hall – a stunning barrel-vaulted dining room with heraldic friezes, suits of armour and fine chandeliers lending a splash of historical colour.
