An essential piece of Soho's history, Maharani Soho first opened in 1971 and became a regular Celeb hangout and favourite meeting place for the likes of the Two Ronnies, Colin Ferrell and Jonathon Ross, to name drop but a few. Now, after a serious makeover, this buzzy Indian restaurant between Oxford Street and Shaftsbury Avenue has reopened, sympathetically redecorated in keeping with its long history creating a warm convivial atmosphere which sparkles as candles flicker throughout.
While keeping a traditional base for example, the Tandoori Se dishes follow a recipe that has not changed for 60 years, the kitchen has moved into the 21st century and the emphasis is on healthy eating combining Maharani's past traditions with modern ideas to create an exciting and diverse new menu.
Some things never change and Maharani became famous for its takeaway service among the Soho production houses.
