The oldest building in the ancient farming village Brearton can sometimes feel like the ultimate local – comfortable but unpretentious, full of atmosphere and character without ever seeming twee, and offering the prospect of good food and drink to boot.

Beer drinkers can take their pick from a brigade of handpumps listing much-sought-after brews, and two dozen enthusiastically described wines are there for those who fancy a taste of the grape.
