Matsuri St James's, a swish Mayfair address next to Quaglino's and behind Fortnum & Mason suggests well-groomed charm and style - and this long-running restaurant doesn't disappoint.

'Matsuri' means 'festivals' and the basement dining room is full of celebratory artefacts, lanterns and fans. What the kitchen offers is a mix of high-art sushi and the theatrical flamboyance of teppanyaki (anything from scallops and lobsters to exclusive wagyu beef and duck).
