Alan Medcalf opened his butchers shop in Clerkenwell in 1912 and became renowned for his top-quality Angus beef, pike, wild salmon and game - the old sign ('40 MEDCALF 40') remains and this reborn venue Medcalf Bar & restaurant, revels in its laid-back 'shabby chic' furnishings and bubbly youthful vibes.

A bar counter runs along one side of the room, rickety tables and chairs are lined up along the other.
