What was the wild and wacky Ballroom Bar on Threadneedle Street has been transformed into The Mercer Restaurant & Bar, a swish-looking destination for local City and media types, who pack the place for power lunches, post-work cocktails and evening get-togethers. Mighty black columns catch they eye and the dining room is dramatically lit by cool white lights.

Britain rules on the menu, and the kitchen conjures up a taste of the past with the likes of chicken and ham broth with pearl barley, potted Yorkshire ham hock with piccalilli, and roast leg of Cornish lamb with duck fat potatoes and minted peas.
