A converted mews building in a cobbled Mayfair courtyard is indeed the setting for this big bold affair. Sandwiched between a basement cocktail lounge and private dining facilities, the restaurant is a riot of decadent Englishness that almost overdoses on embossed leather seating, silk-embroidered wallpaper, crystal wall lights and pretty porcelain.
The kitchen's stated aim is to deliver 'prime British produce transformed by history and a new modern culture' while tipping its hat to the flavours of the former British Empire.
