Named after the species of 'barking deer' introduced to Bedfordshire a century ago, this 300-year-old coaching inn has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment. It now boasts an amazing long bar with a full quota of oak beams, two fireplaces and real ales on tap, plus a separate restaurant serving Indian cuisine with more beams, an inglenook and a glass-covered well.
