Dating from 1437 – or thereabouts – this ancient building has had a colourful history over the years, including stints as a brothel and a banana warehouse. As 19 Grape Lane, it became one of York's best-known culinary addresses, right at the end of the city's tourist trail.

New chef/proprietor Matt Beevers is a seasoned local campaigner and he has given the oak-beamed interior a restrained facelift, as well as amending the restaurant's name.
