A serious gastro-transformation has taken place at the once-dilapidated Norfolk Arms, although its new owners have wisely preserved the building's original Victorian tiled frontage, plasterwork ceilings and Corinthian pillars. There's a distinct Spanish flavour to the place now, with cured hams and bundles of chillies hanging behind the bar, an excellent choice of sherries in a big ice bucket and some intriguing bottles on the forward-looking wine list (including an organic white Rioja).
Tables laid with basic cutlery and tea towels signal that food is now high on the agenda.
