Set amid the beautiful landscape of the Ribble Valley, Nigel Haworth and Craig Bancroft's attractive brick manor house is well into its third decade as a Michelin-starred restaurant and congenial country hotel. Much of Northcote still feels unashamedly traditional, although the dining room hits the contemporary minimalist button with its sparse, airy décor.

Over the years, Nigel Haworth has proved his worth as a crusading supporter of regional food, although his food doesn't simply follow the flock; instead it's an enthralling mix of local pride and understated – but dazzling – innovation.
