Built three centuries ago for the rector of Martinhoe's medieval church, this understated and sympathetically refurbished hotel stands in glorious isolation on the northern fringes of Exmoor National Park. Follow the signs up an unclassified road to find the idyllic house, which is surrounded by pretty gardens just a few hundred yards from the cliff-tops overlooking the Bristol Channel.
All is peace and tranquillity in the cosy dining room, where guests can look forward to a candlelit dinner based on local produce including Exmoor beef and lamb.
