Situated virtually next door to Glen Ord Distillery, John and Eliza Allen's white-painted seventeenth-century residence was originally the laird's house for the Clan McKenzie, but was converted into a beguiling hotel some 40 years ago.
It still oozes personal charm and warmth, with lots of loving touches in the burning log fires, the cosy lounge and 60 acres of carefully tended garden and grounds; the place even boasts its own ghost, with a penchant for re-arranging the pictures on the walls!
Eliza makes profitable use of produce from the garden and the neighbouring region for carefully honed dinners menus along the lines of seared scallops with basil, ginger and lime, followed by char-grilled fillet of venison with redcurrant and port sauce.
