Owners Pietro and Nicole discovered Stock in 2006 and fell in love with the place; eventually they succeeded in converting what was the Old Tearoom in a lively, great-value neighbourhood Italian restaurant that now pulls in punters from Ingatestone, Chelmsford and Billericay.
The kitchen works to a crowd-pleasing menu that works its way through copious antipasti (anything from bresaola to pigeon breast salad with pancetta and raspberry jus), pasta, risottos and mains including salmon wrapped in prosciutto on a bed of ratatouille couscous, fillet of beef with Gorgonzola and Barolo sauce, and escalope of veal Marsala.
Salads, bruschetta and some lighter options are available at lunchtime, and Sunday 'brunch' always features a family roast (with reduced prices for children).
