A converted Victorian pump house once used to supply Durham with its water supply from the River Wear is indeed the setting for this restaurant, which is now surrounded by an ever-changing landscape of mature woodland. Inside it has been stylishly and lavishly renovated with much-coveted snug seating and balcony tables, huge branches covering the walls and red colour schemes.
Steaks and old-school seafood dishes like lobster Thermidor take up a lot of space on the menu, although there's plenty for those who want something a little more modern.
