Three centuries old and – reputedly – one of Northumberland's oldest hostelries, this out-of-the-way village inn not far from Hadrian's Wall now does a good line in twenty-first century gastropub food. 'It's a friendly local pub which happens to have one of the best kitchens in the area,' noted one UK Restaurant Guide user.
The place has improved out of recognition over the past few years, but it still clings to its welcoming, traditional roots with excellent North Country real ales on tap, oak settles, old beams and open fires blazing in the bar.
