Built on the ancient coaching route between Windermere and Penrith, this 400-year-old Lakeland inn, The Queen's Head, boasts unsurpassed views of the Troutbeck valley and Garburn Pass. There's history aplenty to be seen inside, from the glorious carved oak Mayor's Chair (used for Troutbeck's Mayor-Making Ceremony) to the stag's head over the fireplace and the top of a four-poster bed that acts as the 'roof' of the bar itself.
The full menu can be eaten in the bar or in the Mayor's Parlour restaurant and the ambitious repertoire is bolstered by daily specials.
