A Grade II-listed Victorian drinkers' den-cum-gin palace with serious architectural credentials, the Queen's has been subjected to a stunning contemporary makeover of late. Much of the interior has been re-designed as a self-styled 'dining room': zinc planters with bay trees mark the entrance, the ornate plasterwork ceiling has been painted red and there's a glistening open-to-view kitchen at the back.
Chef Torren Lewis has worked with Gary Rhodes and others, and he puts out a daily menu of conventional pub standards plus more fashionable gastro pub specialities.
