Founded by Peppino Leoni in the 1926, the original 'Leoni's Quo Vadis' was a fixture of the Soho scene for more than 50 years. New owners Sam and Eddie Hart (of Fino and Barrafina fame) have sought to return this beautiful and iconic venue to its former glory, with the main restaurant occupying the ground floor, a members' club and two private function rooms above.
The Hart brothers have taken their inspiration from London's past and its upper-crust grill rooms as regards design and atmosphere: lush leather seating, panelled mirrors, moody echoes of Art Deco and sophisticated fabrics define the interior, while the menu opens in classic fashion with Bellinis and other archetypal aperitifs.
Gone is the anglicised Italian food of yore: in its place, diners can look forward to re-invented, back-to-basics British classics, grills (of course) and a smattering of European stand-bys ranging from ham and cheese omelettes to gnocchi with pesto.
