'Real Eating is shaping the way we eat in Britain', wrote Terry Durack in The Independent, and this admirable all-day venue in Hove called The Real Eating Company, ticks all the right boxes. Menus change daily, ingredients are local and seasonal where possible, prices are keen, everyone is welcome, and the place goes about its business without airs, graces or pretence.
Smoked fish boards and charcuterie bolster the array of tempting delights - Sussex beef carpaccio with beetroot, homemade gnocchi with fresh peas and cherry vine tomatoes, Sussex Rump Steak, Chips, Béarnaise sauce, warm treacle tart with homemade ice cream, and much more besides.
It's also worth checking out breakfast with its line-up of big fry-ups, pancakes, eggs florentine, kippers and such like.
